Day 13 – Saturday April 16th

Last night I woke up and I was really hot.   This happens to me a lot. But after last night I realized that it hasn’t really been happening while on the sugar detox. I have still been waking up occasionally but I haven’t been waking up sweating. I’m not sure if I woke up hot last night because of the wine or not. I did have a hot back before bed and I felt pretty warm as I was falling asleep. Also, it was much warmer outside last night than it has been in a while so that could also have had something to do with it. I’ll have to keep an eye on that.

  • 8:00 am cinnamon crumb cake and tea
  • 10:00 am southwest skillet (recipe from the book)
  • 2:30 pm chicken salad and greens
  • 3:30 pm cheese and mary’s crackers and half a glass of white wine
  • 8:30 pm chicken, sweet potato, quinoa, asparagus, carrots and onions

I had a little more wine today. My cousins came over (hi Allie!) and we were having this delicious cheese tray and it was so nice and sunny out, I couldn’t resist having a little wine. I didn’t have any bread though. I’m feeling better about the detox today, so I guess I’ll continue, as long as I can have wine every day. Just kidding 🙂 I may need to have another glass next weekend though, we’ll see.

Day 12 continued

  • 7:30 am cinnamon crumb cake with tea
  • 9:30 am two buffalo chicken egg muffins with avocado and tomatoes
  • 11:00 am a few sips of disgusting smoothie
  • 2:30 pm chicken salad and greens
  • 3:00 pm a piece of chocolate bar
  • 8:00 pm chicken, asparagus, sweet potato, quinoa and brussels sprouts and a glass of red wine

So I cheated a bit today. At lunch I think I ate too much chicken salad. I felt kind of gross after and really tired. But I was so hungry and there was nothing else to eat so I just kept eating it. So then I decided to have a piece of chocolate. It didn’t really help. Also, surprisingly, it didn’t taste that sweet or really that good either. For dinner I made the conscious decision to have a glass of wine. It should have been good, it was $25 and got a score of 92 but it wasn’t. I guess that’s what I get for cheating. This is the wine if you’re interested.

Day 12 (so far) – I hate this detox

I hate this stupid detox so much. I hate it. I don’t feel any better, I just feel angry and irritated and in dire need of wine and pasta. These so called ‘not sweet treats’ are disgusting and taste like cardboard. And I just made an apple spinach smoothie and it was revolting. I couldn’t drink it. I even tried adding a bit of agave to it but that didn’t help. What a waste of a bunch of really good ingredients. The chicken salad I had yesterday was good but it was full of mayonnaise so of course it’s good.

Solange has been super cranky this week and today is probably the worst. She basically cried all morning until it was time for her first nap. She seemed better after she woke up, but I wasn’t. I’m so tired and I just want something comforting to eat 😦

Day 11 – Thursday April 14th

This morning I went to see my osteopath at 10 and then I had to meet my own client at 2 so I knew I wouldn’t have time to go home for lunch. I decided to bring some chilli with me and eat it at the centre where I see clients. There is a kitchen area in the basement. However, when I got there I realized there is no microwave! By now it was about 1:20 so I didn’t have a lot of time. Luckily I had noticed a Thai place on my walk there so I headed back there and got a green curry chicken. It’s hard to be sure that there is no sugar in their sauce but it was the best I could do. I was starving and there was no way I could go through my session with a grumbling stomach. I guess next time I bring a lunch it will have to be salad.

After eating the Thai food I did feel better. I’m pretty sure there was some sugar in it. I didn’t feel the same need to drink as I did yesterday. Am I an alcoholic? I’ve wondered this before. I don’t think I am because I’m able to keep alcohol in the house without drinking it all and I usually only have one or two drinks and I don’t drink to get drunk. Still, I seem to have some kind of dependency on it.

  • 7:30 am cinnamon crumb cake with tea
  • 8:30 am one buffalo chicken egg muffin with avocado and tomatoes
  • 1:30 pm delicious thai food from Green Basil
  • 8:00 pm chicken salad with greens

Day 10 – Wednesday April 13th

Yoga this morning with baby was really hard. Solange was cranky and fussing a lot so I basically had to hold her the entire time. It was exhausting. I might have to cheat. I want a glass of wine so badly. I told Amr I wanted to quit this stupid detox and he suggested maybe I just cheat a little and then continue on, which is a good idea. So I might have a drink this weekend.

I discovered some frozen egg muffins in the freezer, score!

  • 7:00 am cinnamon crumb cake with tea, some carrot hash with one egg
  • 10:30 am pumpkin spice coconut milk smoothie
  • 1:00 pm latte
  • 3:30 pm chili with cheese and some broccoli
  • 8:00 pm salmon, quinoa, salad and some asparagus with cheese wrapped in prosciutto

Day 9 – Tuesday April 12th

  • 7:30 am cinnamon crumb cake with tea
  • 9:30 am honey crisp apple (I cheated!)
  • 10:30 am pumpkin spice coconut milk smoothie
  • 12:00 pm almonds
  • 2:30 pm chili with cheese and a side of vegetables and a little bit of sweet potato
  • 7:30 pm flank steak with coffee and cocoa rub, brown rice, some broccoli and a big salad with tomatoes, beets, etc.

I went for a long walk with Solange in the morning and I was planning to get a latte near the end of the walk but by then she was getting a bit fussy so I decided to skip the coffee and just go home. But then I was starving so I had a honey crisp apple while I was feeding her. This is technically not allowed but I’m not too concerned about it. The sugar content is actually pretty much the same with red and green apples, but they want you to only eat green since they are more sour. I have to say, the honey crisp apple tasted incredibly sweet!

I had to cheat a little on the smoothie too. The recipe calls for ‘single ingredient protein powder’. I looked at a lot of protein powders at the health food store and none of them seemed to have only one ingredient. I could have made the smoothie without protein powder but since it was basically my breakfast I wanted to add something to beef it up a little. The powder I used only had a few ingredients and it didn’t sound like any of them were sugar. Again, I’m not too concerned.

Look, here’s a photo!  This is the pumpkin spice latte. It’s a fairly crappy photo I know. I’m not really set up for food photography.  Maybe someday.

The hardest thing for me continues to be not drinking. I’m ok without the sugar and even without the bread but I just really really want a glass of wine with dinner.
